What Are The Best Weight Loss Drugs and Supplements?

The basics of losing weight include diet control and physical activities. Along with these, many people also try prescription weight loss pills that can help. Here are some of the frequently consumed weight loss drugs: Orlistat, Contrave, Metformin, Saxenda, Belviq, Qsymia, and Phentermine. These weight loss products are easily available online for purchase. However, before buying any of these, you should consult a medical practitioner and discuss your medical history. Aware your doctor about your allergies to particular medicines, or if you have any medical conditions or in case you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a baby.

Let us now discuss how these medications work:

Orlistat (Xenical)

This drug works by stopping your body from absorbing around one-third of the fat you eat. When you take this drug with a prescription, it’s called Xenical. If you take it without prescription, it’s known as Alli. Alli is only taken in half of Xenical’s dose.

hCG

If you’re on an ultra-low-calorie diet, hCG can reset your metabolism so you can lose as much as a pound a day without feeling weak or hungry.

Metformin

Metformin is used with a doctor-approved diet and exercise program. The drug prompts you to eat less, thus, reducing your appetite. Plus, it changes how your body uses and stores fat.

Contrave

Contrave is an amalgam of two drugs, Naltrexone and Bupropion, both are FDA approved. While Naltrexone is used in treating people with alcohol and opioid dependency, Bupropion is approved to treat depression, smoking, and seasonal affective disorder. This weight-loss drug also alters your brain by helping you control cravings and reduce hunger pangs.

Saxenda

Saxenda is the stronger dose of type 2 diabetes supplement called Victoza. This medication works similar to an intestinal hormone, which tells your brain that your stomach is full.

Belviq

Belviq is an FDA-approved prescription weight-loss medication that acts by curtailing your appetite. People who take this drug along with depression medications need monitoring. When used with exercise and diet, Belviq helps adults that live with extra-weight or with a weight-related medical problem lose weight and keep it off. The pill works by controlling appetite, as it activates brain receptors for serotonin, a neurotransmitter that triggers feelings of satisfaction and satiety.

Qsymia

Qsymia works by curtailing your appetite. It uses a combination of phentermine with the seizure/migraine drug topiramate. It can cause weight loss in several ways such as by burning more calories, by making you feel full, or making the food taste bad.

Topamax

Doctors claim that Topamax has a significant effect on weight loss, compared to other weight loss and anti-obesity drugs induced. Topamax or topiramate is a highly efficient tool in reducing weight when merged with diet and exercise.
